About the Delta-Sigma Symbol

When I first began working on "Deconverting," I realized that it looked very plain. It made me wonder, is there a logo or symbol out there that deconverts use to identify each other? I scoured the internet but was unable to find anything.

Logos may seem simple or silly, but many times they give people a "common banner" under which to unite or identify with each other. The Masons use the compass and square, early Christians used a fish (modern ones a cross), Jews a star, Microsoft a window.

So I decided that there should be available a logo for all deconverts to use for a banner or for united identification. Thus I created the delta-sigma:
In designing this, I chose the Greek alphabet because that is what science uses to identify things, and science is an extremely important part of being a deconvert.
  • The uppercase Delta (Δ) means "difference or change" - I used this to denote a change of state (i.e., deconverting).
  • The lowercase Sigma (σ) means "uncertainty" - I used this to denote the uncertainty of any particular belief system.
  • The Sigma is encapsulated inside the Delta to show that uncertainty itself is the internal driving force of change. In other words, because of a deconvert's uncertainty in his beliefs, an external change occurs.
I look at it almost as a scientific "Eye of Providence" on a certain level of irony - The Eye of Providence represents god watching, this represents science watching!

And so there it is. Please feel free to use this symbol in any capacity, attribution or no. You can have a larger, transparent PNG image by clicking here.
